Our client is a global leader in the manufacture and marketing of paints and coatings for a wide variety of applications. This position is highly visible throughout the business unit and is located in a fast paced environment that provides plenty of opportunity to learn and grow. 


  • Manage and scale up polymer development for use in industrial coatings based on new and existing chemistry platforms. 
  • Supervise a team of chemists (4) to complete lab evaluations and influence a team of chemical engineers to perform pilot plant process studies and scale-up. 
  • Integrate polymer design with process development for scale-up of new polymers and coatings formulations. 
  • Make strong contributions to process optimization in manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with other functions such as research, manufacturing, purchasing, quality control and customers as the primary R&D contact for technical and complex projects. 
  • Apply stage-gate methodology to process development new product introductions leading to commercialization.  
  • Coordinate and lead polymer development projects across labs in North America, Europe and Asia. 
  • Recruit and develop new talent to support new polymer design. 
  • Masters degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, polymer engineering, or material science. 
  • Ph.D. is highly preferred. 
  • At least 10 years of industrial experience in the scale up and process development of coatings, plastics, polymers or related materials. 
  • Experience using DOE, SPC and DFSS methodologies. 
  • Expertise with polymer synthesis or thermoset chemistries highly preferred. 
  • Experience supervising lab technicians and chemists. 
  • Demonstrated success in product development and commercialization. 
  • Outstanding leadership, organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to be successful in a matrixed, global organization and to influence others across functions and geographies. 
  • Ablity to travel both domestically and internationally on a limited basis.
