Our client is a global leader in developing paints and coatings for a wide variety of applications. They are in need of an experienced Polymer Synthesis chemist to help develop new materials for coatings applications. This position is located in Pittsburgh, PA. 


Responsibilities
  • Solve complex problems using industrial knowledge of raw materials, polymerization techniques, manufacturing methods, substrates, application equipment and customer requirements. 
  • Synthesize new polymers to support strategic business objectives. 
  • Manage high level, complex technical problems using laboratory expertise and other resources. 
  • Mentor  and train junior level chemists polymer synthesis techniques. 
  • Lead key technology platform projects. 
  • Effectively communicate to internal audiences and coordinate activity between Polymer Development and Product Development teams. 
  • Support efforts to scale-up and commercialize products. 
  • Prepare and communicate technical presentations to senior management. 

Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or related discipline. 
  • At least 10 years of industrial experience in the design and synthesis of polymers for coatings applications. 
  • Knowledge of both solvent and water borne polymer systems. 
  • Expertise in base coatings chemistries such as epoxy, acrylic, polyester, polyurethane, and oleo. 
  • Demonstrated success in commercializing new polymer platforms. 
  • Track record of developing patented technologies. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral. 
  • Ability to successfully collaborate in project team environments.
