The Senior Process Engineer I is responsible for the successful execution of processes and/or projects such that product is made consistent with company strategy, commitments, and goals.  This includes monitoring safety, environmental impact, quality, delivery, and cost for the products made in the Multipurpose Plant.  Key aspects of the role include process improvement, downtime reduction, operator training, trial execution, inventory accuracy, and equipment efficiency. Looking for a candidate out of specialty chemical or paper/ pulp or extrusion or resin manufacturing with formulating experience.

II.              Principle job accountabilities

  • Successfully execute customer trials in the Multipurpose Plant
    • Work closely with Applications Engineer to insure a successful technology transfer
    • Operate all equipment related to customer trials including reactors, dryers, centrifuges, filter presses, pumps, mills, etc.
    • Expertly navigate DCS system
    • Manage unplanned events during trial run (investigate root cause, troubleshoot, remediate)
    • Maintain and complete customer required paperwork/spreadsheets/reports
    • Provide data and feedback to applications engineer
    • Assist Shift Supervisor in completing associated paperwork
    • Participate in project/product post campaign review to identify successes and opportunities for improvement
  • Assist Applications Engineer in preparation of upcoming trials
    • Recommend equipment configurations
    • Work with maintenance to overcome setup issues
  • Optimize core products
    • Maintain/streamline/improve manufacturing procedures and documentation
    • Routinely train and refresh operators on procedures and best practices
    • Create and maintain data/charts/reports for all products to increase awareness and visibility
    • Use SPC methods to improve efficiency and yield
  • Assist in tracking plant performance utilizing Lean Six Sigma tools
  • Fill-in Shift Supervisor as needed

III.         Education

The position requires a minimum of a BS in Engineering (ChemE. preferred)
  • Fluent in all Microsoft Office applications a must
  • Familiar with DCS control system a plus
  • Technically competent with various statistical software programs, such as Minitab
  • Ability to conduct material and energy balances on process unit operations


IV.         Experience

One to four years’ experience in a chemical manufacturing environment working directly with hourly employees and operators.  Can work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.  Hazardous chemical experience is highly desired.

VI.         Working conditions

  • Must be willing to work shifts
  • Overtime may be required
  • Physically able to facilitate and participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings
  • Must be comfortable getting dirty.  Some manual labor is required during trials.
