A growing company is looking for a Lead Aerospace Engineer position to serve as PI on R/D programs. The ideal candidate will design, develop, and test a variety of aerospace systems and components; independently apply solutions of large scope and complexity, and competently perform and solve complex and involved assignments. The lead must understand completely and apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards with a full and competent knowledge of engineering, industry, and company practices.
Specific Functions:
- Continue to develop technical excellence in required specialty
- Lead a team of 5-15 persons to perform the design, analysis, and realization of a product of moderate complexity
- Perform technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk, and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems
- Ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints
- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications
- Represent organization to internal and external customers on specific projects/teams
- Make design recommendations and set baselines based on trade studies, analyses, and design reviews
- Prepare periodic reports, presentations, and records on project activities, progress, status, or other special reports for management or outside agencies
- Propose new internal research and development projects that support strategic goals

Lead Aerospace Engineer Qualifications: - Ability to serve as Project Lead or Project Manager
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field with at least 8 years of experience with system and/or flight/operational hardware development experience in the aerospace/defense industry or a PhD degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent field and 5-10 years with system and/or hardware development experience in the aerospace/defense industry
- Knowledge and experience on aerospace/defense projects from requirements definition to build and test in at least one of the following discipline areas: Environmental Control and Life Support (ECLSS), Component Hardware or System Design, Thermal Control Component Hardware or System Design or Regenerative Fuel Cells
- Demonstrated technical ability to perform engineering analyses in at least one the following areas: three phase heat transfer, sublimation heat transfer, high temperature material/mechanical design and solid oxide electrochemical devices or membrane technologies for hydration or separation
- Recognition among peers in the industry as competent and thorough; as evidenced by published work or other relevant technical publications
- Experience with Thermal or ECLSS is required
- Knowledge of equipment and systems appropriate to related discipline
- Knowledge of proposal processes
- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting for proposals
- Skill in applying engineering principles and procedures
- Skill in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
- Skill in engineering design applications
- Ability to break down large engineering tasks into discrete tasks for less senior engineering personnel
- Ability to quickly evaluate Junior Engineer's designs and concepts and provide expert advice that will enhance the resulting designs
