Job Description
Main responsibilities of the position will be:
- Maximization of overall efficiencies for the compounding operation including compounding rates, quality and safety improvements, machine efficiencies, yield increases, optimizing processes (both mechanical and manual), and production process improvements and simplification. Communicate and transpose these successes to other site operations and manufacturing processes.
- Provide support to the sites where they are needed within Engineering Plastics.
- Troubleshooting and solving compounding/manufacturing issues as they occur.
- Maintain accuracy of process sheets/running conditions.
- Provide direction and support to Engineering Technicians.
- Evaluate existing processes in compounding for the objective of increasing productivity and cost.
- Develop or possess the ability of Root Cause Corrective Action of customer /quality complaints.
- Manage qualification work of existing products and new product scale-ups.
- Perform product capability trials and product family improvements/optimizations.
- Project Work - manage/lead projects as well as help with designs and equipment specifications/modifications, re-work usage, STW reduction, and safety improvements.
- Optimize rate, uptime, and yield and optimization of critical spares, elements, barrels, die plates, etc.
- Participate in special interest projects to conduct, perform, evaluate, and report on improvements in the process control area.
- Refinement of procedures and compounding processes.
- Support development of strategies (e.g., technology, equipment operation, reliability and manufacturing portfolio) and implementation of plans aligned with those strategies.
Qualifications
- B.S. in Chemical, Mechanical, or Polymer Engineering is required. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience required
- Solid understanding and utilization of SPC principles and practices required
- Plastics compounding experience preferred
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt training and certification preferred The successful candidate must:
- Be able to demonstrate strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and be an effective leader of change.
- Have good listening and communication skills and the ability act as a liaison between different departments.
- Must be able to challenge the status quo and foster innovation.
